The story behind the ‘People’s Car’- Maruti 800, which revolutionized the Indian auto industry and imbibed a self-esteem in India and Indians was unveiled yesterday by Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
The Maruti Story - How a Public Sector Company Put India on Wheels written by Maruti chairman R C Bhargava and co-author senior journalist Seetha, details the journey of a successful enterprise despite having limitations associated with a public sector undertaking.
Releasing the book, Pranab Mukherjee said, “Maruti has reached a new landmark - production of one million units. India has shown that it can become a small car manufacturing hub and there is no reason why we cannot compete in any other manufactured product on a global scale.”
“Today entrepreneurs are much more aggressive and vigorous. Entrepreneurship is growing at a fast pace with people like Narayan Murthy and Sunil Mittal. Auto industry has a great future as there is still a lot of unexplored space within Indian market because of low penetration. There is a long way to go but otherwise we have a huge possibility of not only growing in the domestic market but also in the international market says”, Maruti chairman R C Bhargava.
