Textile industry faces shortage of labour

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act aims at enhancing the livelihood of people in the rural areas by assuring them hundred days of wage-employment guarantee in a financial year

The textile and clothing industry in the country is in short supply of workers since they are gettng better jobs in their native land in rural areas.

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act aims at enhancing the livelihood of  people in the rural areas by assuring them hundred days of wage-employment guarantee in a financial year.

The textile industry is totally dependent on migrant workers welcoming them from North India, especially from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa.

At present, about 35 million workers are directly employed in the textile and clothing sector, and another 45 million or so are employed in allied industries.
