“We are looking to become the largest digital goods marketplace in India and messengers are increasingly becoming a platform for not just interactions but commerce as well. We are looking to leverage this along with the fact that Plustxt has regional language support. The application has great commercial and strategic potential,” said Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO, One97.
Plustxt currently supports messaging in multiple languages like Telugu, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi and Tamil. The app has so far already seen around 1 lakh downloads.
Plustxt was founded in April 2012 by IITian Pratyush Prasanna along with Lokesh Chauhan and Parag who worked with Prasanna at social messaging company GupShup. Microsoft Accelerator chose Plustxt last September among the 11 technology start-ups for its first batch.
One97 last December had also acquired mobile marketing platform MobiVite to strengthen itself in mobile marketing space. The current acquisition is also a step in the same direction while the company might acquire more such start-ups in future.
“Our focus is growth in mobile marketing, and if required we are open to further acquisitions,” added Sharma.
