Crude Area, a Mumbai-based, online graphic art and design marketplace has raised a round of funding from a syndicate of angel investors including the founders of Webchutney, and two other angel investors from the US. The start-up was founded by Shweta Bhandari and Nidhi Dewan last year in November. The amount of money raised has not been disclosed.
The duo now intends to increase operations with additional hiring and invest in marketing to increase outreach with the money raised, said a release.
“We launched with wall prints in November 2012 and are now looking to scale across different home décor and lifestyle products in the next 2-3 months. As we scale, we expect to compete with other marketplaces in the home décor/lifestyle space,” said Bhandari.
Further Dewan added, ” We knew there is huge opportunity in helping this new working class consumer personalize their cookie-cut homes and dull offices with beautiful art & design related merchandise that resonates with them and makes them feel good! We’ll be focusing a lot of energies in reaching out to this audience now.”
Crude Area is focused on making beautiful, contemporary graphic art and design from all around the world available to the non-collector, non-millionaire audience in India.
“For international artists, we offer new markets with greater recognition and monetization. We only print/produce on demand which makes our business cash-flow efficient. We are also working with partners to understand how we can develop categories using technologies like 3d printing,” said Dewan.
