According to the latest data available, the share of Micro and Small Enterprises in the manufacturing sector of the country is 45.25 %, informed Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shri Dinsha Patel in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. The latest data is available for the year 2007-08.
The Government has initiated several measures to help MSMEs for technological upgradation and further increase their contribution in manufacturing output. Some of the initiatives include - implementation of Design Clinic Scheme; Scheme for Promotion of Information and Communication Tools; Scheme for Marketing Assistance and Technology Upgradation and Scheme for Mini Tool Rooms under PPP mode and the Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS).
This sector contributes 8% of the country’s GDP and employs around 60 million people, through 26 million enterprises. MSMEs in the country manufacture over 6,000 products.
