Kaizen PE fund invests $4.1 million in tech education startup Impartus Innovations

Kaizen, India's first education focussed private equity fund has made a Series A investment of $4.1 million in Impartus Innovations. Impartus is bringing videos into mainstream learning, through its flagship products in Lecture Capture (automated classroom recording and distribution) and Flipped Classroom and Video Intelligence. It's e-learning channel partner is Pearson India.

Sandeep Aneja, Founder and MD, Kaizen, said, "This is the seventh investment by Kaizen and the third in educational technology space. Video-based learning is increasingly becoming mainstream with analytics-driven personalization possible through digital platforms."

Within a short span of time, Impartus boasts of more than 40 universities and schools pan India as its clients, with more than 2,000 hours per day of videos getting recorded, processed and distributed online to students and faculties. Some of the prominent institutes using Impartus are IIM Bangalore, SP Jain Mumbai, PES Institute of Technology Bangalore, BMS College of Engineering Bangalore, Manipal Group, Shiv Nadar Group, Podar Group, Great Lakes Chennai.

"Impartus takes a big leap forward in enabling flipped classrooms, classroom videos that are highly contextual to the curriculum and therefore effective in driving learning outcomes amongst students, and also enable teacher development. Kaizen views the global market ready for this product especially, with the company's ability to build intelligence into video-based learning," Aneja added further.

The company was founded by Alok Choudhary, Amit Mahensaria and Manish Kumar, three IIT Chennai and IIT Delhi alumni of 2002 batch, who bring with them diverse skill sets of education sector, private equity and technology development experience. The team is based out of Bangalore and is looking to replicate its market leadership in India in other international markets in SE Asia, UK, USA and Africa.
