The money will be used in sourcing inventory and promotion of the platform.
Online art gallery Anasha Art, promoted by XLRI Jamshedpur alumnus Shayal and her mother Anahita Taunk, has received an undisclosed amount of funding from Praveen Sinha, Co-founder and Managing Director, Jabong. The money will be used in sourcing inventory and promotion of the platform.
"The idea behind this investment is that Indian art space is amazing. It's vibrant and rich and has a lot of immensely talented artists. High quality original artwork can add a lot character to any space, be it home or office. Given this, we thought that art was a great product to sell online," Sinha told EntrepreneurIndia.com.
Shayal Taunk is Sinha's wife and she founded Anasha Art in November 2014. The platform showcases works by artists such as Anjolie Ela Menon, Yusuf Arakkal, Seema Kohli, Ranadip Mukherjee, Somenath Maity, Bratin Khan among others.
On being asked about any other investment plans, Sinha said, "My investments range from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1 crore as seed capital. There are few more investment under process, will be able to disclose when it gets finalised."
Anasha Art strives to popularise Indian art through online medium in India and globally. "The platform makes it (Indian art) accessible. Small towns in our country have many art enthusiasts, but there are very few galleries, events and shows being organised. Anasha Art presents a wider choice as compared to shows and traditional galleries, since space is not a constraint online," Shayal told EntrepreneurIndia.com.
"For artists, it is very convenient to showcase their work and reach out to their target audience. Artists are very creative set of people and this platform helps them in providing a great channel to showcase their work," she added further.
