With both India and Canada exploring trade opportunities with each other, the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of both the countries will be benefiting.
Canada is looking at a relaxed policy regime for the companies that want to enter India under the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). It will be exploring the potential of a duty-free agreement for goods and services and an investment treaty to encourage SMEs from the country to explore the Indian market. Canadian SMEs see a lot of opportunities in India especially in sectors like mining, life sciences and finance and want to explore them.
For this purpose, a joint study group was set up in November 2009 and the studies done by the group will be released in May this year.
