It is specifically with this purpose, that Punjab Government has come up with a new draft IT Policy,” shared Mr Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, IT Minister, Govt of Punjab.

It is specifically with this purpose, that Punjab Government has come up with a new draft IT Policy,” shared Mr Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, IT Minister, Govt of Punjab.
Mr Adaish Partap Singh Kairon was chairing a session with IT industry representatives including CII members to discuss the IT/ITeS and Electronic Manufacturing policy initiatives of the Department of IT, Govt of Punjab and other related issues, at Punjab Bhawan, here today.
The Minister also informed that, “State Government has reserved about 1700 acres of land for the development of Knowledge Park at SAS Nagar (Mohali). Out of this, 40 acres of land has been earmarked exclusively for development of Electronics System Design Manufacturing (ESDM) Cluster as per the Govt of India scheme for ESDM. In addition, land in the form of plots of various sizes is also reserved for allotment to IT/ITES companies.”
Highlighting the importance of Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, he added that “Though India is a recognized global player in software services sector but it lags behind in electronics hardware manufacturing capabilities, but is rapidly becoming a favourable destination for chip design and embedded software and there is immense potential for the same. Hence, Punjab Government will be drafting new policy for ESDM sector, with special package of incentives, so as to transform Punjab into a global hub ESDM hub.”
Appreciating the efforts of the Punjab Government for the speedy growth of the IT sector, Mr Sameer Goel, Member CII National Committee on IT/ITES & e-Commerce, said that “CII has been constantly engaging with the government of Punjab for the growth of IT industry. CII welcomes the draft IT Policy as it will really benefit the small entrepreneurs from the region. CII had made several recommendations to revise the Punjab IT Policy, which also included establishment of requisite ecosystem for the industry in Mohali. It is really appreciable that the State Govt has reserved 1700 acres for development of Knowledge Park in Mohali.”
Various important issues like VAT retention, electricity duty exemption and stamp duty exemption were also discussed at the meeting.
