The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (GFDCA), implementing the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) since November 1, 2010, has put the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) under the scanner. The move comes in the wake of a recent directive from the Drug Comptroller General of India (DCGI) to ensure that all pharma units, especially the SMEs, are implementing GLP. The state drug controllers will now inspect the pharma units to verify the compliance of GLP norms.
H D Koshia, Commissioner for licensing, stated: “We started with the educational approach, but now we have started verifying the implementation of GLP for 5,000-odd license holders in the state of which about 4,000 manufacturers are SMEs.”
