The report further states that MP Vandana Chavan in a recent letter to Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the cell should coordinate directly with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for any potential integration of plans and policies.
Naidu has asked for a Green or Renewable Energy Cell in the Ministry to focus on the needs for the utilisation of the renewable energy sources in urban areas.
"The cell should coordinate directly with the MNRE for any potential integration of plans and policies," a Climate Parliament statement said.
"Ministry of Urban Development (MOUD) should plan renewable energy interventions and components in its programmes and schemes in coordination with MNRE," Chavan told PTI.
Chavan further told PTI that Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), Smart Cities Programme, North Eastern Region Urban Development Programme (NERUDP) are some of the important government programmes, where renewable energy must be integrated.
