Increasing internet penetration has helped e-commerce firm hit a GMV of $1 billion in March 2014.
Flipkart has sold goods of $3 billion in 2014 and is eyeing sales worth $8 billion (about Rs 50,000 crore) in 2015. Increasing internet penetration and online shopping by youngsters helped e-commerce firm hit a gross merchandise value (GMV) of $1 billion in March 2014.
"The Bengaluru-headquartered firm is also targeting to add 100,000 sellers on its platform this year and expects to sell 25 million units (products) per month during the same period," said an official.
"Flipkart has set a target to reach $8 billion in GMV in 2015 and add 100,000 sellers on its platform. It also expects to sell about 25 million products per month by the end of this year," added the official.
In another key initiative, Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSC SPV (CSC e-Governance Services India Limited). This will allow Flipkart and CSC SPV to work out a mechanism to help Common Service Centers (CSCs) pan India to leverage Flipkart's e-commerce platform. This is another activity in its mission, "Flipkart Karigaar ke Dwaar".
The partnership will offer rural artisans and MSME's the opportunity to build and establish their brands nationally, access to financial, marketing and supply chain support and generate employment and enhance rural economy.
Commenting on this partnership, Joy Bandekar, Corporate President, Flipkart, said, "This partnership with CSC SPV will help us provide the rural artisan and MSME community the support needed tomarket their products across the country. This will create the right environment for cluster development across the country and make CSC's a beehive of economic development thus igniting the spark for the Make in India initiative. Our focus is to develop these communities and make them economically self-sufficient and also develop ancillary industries which will contribute toward employment generation."
