The EVTEKS- 17th edition of Istanbul Home Textiles Exhibition that got underway on May 18 in Turkey failed to satisfy Indian carpet exporters as they faced basic glitches in finding enough space to exhibit their products thereby bagging orders below estimated target.
Commenting on the mismanagement caused due to the ignorance of the organizers at CNR Expo Center, Turkey, O.P.Garg, Chairman, Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) said, "The exhibition was a complete failure. They (the organizers) have mismanaged it. They have provided our stalls in a conference room. They have cheated us."
The 13 carpet exporters from India who participated in this five-day event faced tremendous problem with limited space and there were potential problems with the halls which were not fully structured, complained Garg.
India will be exporting around USD 60 million goods (hand-knotted, Kashmiri silk carpets, etc) to Turkey this year. In fact, last year, India exported around USD 40-45 million of carpet products to this region.
