The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) is participating with 128 Indian handicrafts exporters to showcase their innovative and eco-friendly products in three specialized trade fairs being held in Hong Kong during this month.
These three trade fairs are: Hong Kong Houseware Fair and Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair from April 20-23, 2011 while Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair from April 27-30, 2011 is being held after a gap of about four days. All these fairs will be held at the same venue, Hong Kong Convention Exhibition Centre.
Chairman of EPCH, Raj Kumar Malhotra said, “Handicrafts occupies an important place in the Indian economy and society. This product group is a large foreign exchange earner, employment generator for economically and socially backward classes and promoter of Indian ethnic, cultural heritage worldwide. The exports of handicrafts which kept on increasing on an annual average growth of 10-15% till 2006-07 started declining from 2007-08 and 2008-09 due to slump in the international market”.
However, with the help of special package offered by the Government and also by extraordinary efforts made by the exporting community, the handicrafts exports started picking up from 2009-10 and have risen by 25.75 percent during 2010-11 in dollar terms, added Malhotra.
