Hobby of listing events online turned into a serious affair when people across the country started pouring in the details of their events via e-mails. This led to the formation of EventNu, which is a self financed company started by Ruchit Garg and Vishwa Vivek.

 

Harmit Singh (HS): Give us an insight into EventNu?

Vishwa Vivek (VV): EventNu is an event guide that focuses on India. EventNu is an event information and event ticketing site. We have tie up with organisers and we provide the services of ticketing for various events.

 

(HS): What is your business model?

(VV): We derive our revenue from the companies that want to sell tickets to their shows through our site. We do not have any fixed price. We charge according to the number of tickets sold through our portal. Besides this, we also provide free tickets, which do not cost anything, to people.

 

(HS): Who are your target audiences?

(VV): It is open to all. Any company which wants to advertise its shows, can advertise though our portal, and anyone who wants to attend the events can book tickets though our site.

 

(HS):  Why did you choose to get into a business of providing event information to people?

(VV): Earlier, whenever we tried to look for information on the Internet regarding shows and events happening in a city, we were disappointed to see that there wasn’t any site that could provide satisfactory information. As a hobby, initially, we started posting events on the Internet. Later, it turned into a serious affair and we developed a portal that provided information pertaining to shows, exhibition, and events etc and helped people find a suitable place for outings.

 

(HS): What was your area of expertise before venturing the business?

(VV): Previously, I was employed with Yahoo and have a decade of experience in web research and web related services. Ruchit Garg, another founder, is still working with Microsoft. He works for EventNu after office hours.

 

(HS): What is your team strength?

(VV): We, currently, have six people, which include developers, designers, sales people and others like freelancers and consultants.

 

(HS):  What is the USP of EventNu?

(VV): Our offerings stand out in terms of clarity. Anyone who uses our portal has a good experience. We get good feedbacks about our portal; we have never come across anyone who is not satisfied with our services. These are the attributes that make EventNu unique.

 

(HS): What challenges did you face in the beginning?

(VV): As mentioned earlier we did not seek help from any angel investor for initial funding. The challenge that we faced, was to get the right minded people to work for us within the limited finances that we had. But luckily, as Ruchit and I had different backgrounds, through our contacts and prior networking, we somehow managed to get the right minded people to work with us with same passion as we did. I took care of IT while he handled business well.

 

(HS): What are your future plans?

(VV): We presently provide information of events which takes place in major cities (metros) and are targeting to have this platform available for all the cities. We want to share information about shows and events conducted even in not-so-popular cities and small towns to enhance our reach.

 

(HS): What advise would you like to give to entrepreneurs?

(VV): Believe in yourself. You should be clear about your idea and its commercial viability before initiating.
