Why DTDC deserves to be in Franchise 100 this year?

Homegrown courier brand DTDC has emerged as one among the top 10 brands in the ‘Franchise100 list 2020,’ published by The Franchising World magazine. Scoring high for its continuous growth and aggressive expansion in domestic and international markets, DTDC was among the very few courier and logistics brands that made the cut to feature in the Franchise 100 list.  

In addition, the brand featured among the Top-5 brands with highest average franchise outlet growth since establishment.

One of the earliest entrants into the logistics sector in India, DTDC has grown to become the country’s largest delivery network company. With a massive franchise network of 11,900 outlets in 2019, the company has observed outlet growth of over 20% over the last three years, and with average addition of over 421 units per annum since its inception in 1990. Highlighting the reasons for the company’s astounding growth curve, Abhishek Chakraborty, Executive Director, DTDC Express, says, “DTDC as a brand has amalgamated extremely well with the entrepreneurial eco-system and we are consistently working towards introducing new ways of service delivery.”

“We are also optimizing efficiency across all levels. We have now introduced online booking to streamline pick-ups. A lot of digital initiatives related to services or processes have been successfully implemented in order to equip our franchisees extend world-class services to the end customer,” he adds.

In 2019, the company teamed up with Delhi Capitals for the second year on the trot as its Official Logistics Partner, overseeing the entire back-end logistics support for the team.

With over 12 million shipments in a month, DTDC has consistently been at the top of the business since its launch in 1990. One of the key factors for its rapid growth has been attributed to its franchise model. The brand offers different types of franchise models.

This also includes single unit franchise, covering a small territory or particular pin code requiring an investment of just Rs 1.5 lakhs. DTDC also offers master franchise of an area within city limits and super franchise that covers a district or territory. Adhering to these models, DTDC has announced plans to launch 500-600 new facilities on a pan-India level by 2022. “Our franchise count in India is now nearing 12,000 and we will continue our expansion aggressively across metros, Tier II cities as well as rural markets,” shares Chakraborty.
