US Pizza which is eyeing to open 200 stores in the next few years wants to expand to Tier II, III towns
Home-grown pizza brand US Pizza has emerged as one among the winners in the Franchise 100 – India’s Top Franchises for 2020 published by The Franchising World magazine. The annual franchise list identifies top performing brands in the franchise segment. Scored on several parameters like franchise outlet growth, average franchise outlet growth, employee growth, among other factors; the Franchise 100 recognizes the best brands in the business.
Among several factors that contributed to the brand’s success to make it to the top 100, its innovation strategy played a key role. United Restaurants, the parent company of US Pizza, in its bid to be relevant and ahead of the game, overhauls the look of its outlets, menu and products every three years. “Like food, brands can never be allowed to get stale,” shares Kumar DVSN, COO, United Restaurants. The strategy worked well for the brand as it grew its franchise footprint by more than 28% across India over the last three years.
US Pizza added more than 10 outlets to its chain last year alone, while its employee strength grew by over 33%. The company states that though the international pizza brands in India have their major presence and revenue in only three large cities, US Pizza believes that there is a growing market across the rest of the country too. Kumar says, “Other players operate with a far higher cost structure because of high rents and large marketing presence, passing on those costs to their customers.”
“However, US Pizza has focused on the rest-of-India and has strict cost controls to deliver fresh-dough pizzas of a far higher quality at 75% the price on an average,” he adds.
Elaborating about the expansion plans, Kumar shares, “US Pizza will be the second-largest pizza chain in India by 2025. We want to open 200 stores in the next few years. As middle-class India’s strongly preferred pizza, our efforts and investment are focused on expanding our network’s reach to all corners of the country. Never compromising on quality is our only rule.”
