Manufacturing and retail business of water purifiers offers a lot of opportunities to the investors. "To be on the top among other brands, extensive business network offered to the franchisees will surely be the key driver in fetching more returns." tells Mahesh Gupta, Founder & Chairman, Kent RO systems in a candid interaction with Yamini S Verma.
Why did you choose to expand via franchising model?
I started my journey in 1985, from a small room of my house, with nothing but dreams and self belief. Year 1998 proved to a turning point in my life, when I laid the foundation of Kent RO systems by inventing a water purifier based on Reverse Osmosis Technology. Today, with almost 40 per cent market share in RO Mineral + RO segment, Kent RO Systems Ltd. is the most dynamic water purifier brand in India. Kent has presence in multi- brand stores with a widespread distribution network but when we realized the need to enter the direct marketing retail model, we planned to do it via franchising.
Are you bullish about the growth of franchising industry in India? What according to you are the three skills needed to be a successful franchise professional?
Yes, it is an opportunity for growing businesses; moreover it helps in expansion and reaching out to various customers. As per me three skills would be motivation, guidance and constructive feedback and last but definitely not the least ability to absorb and work for the system.
Please share one strategy that you applied and has personally helped you create a successful franchise network?
Our strategy of launching Kent Shoppe’s 30-40 stores in Delhi and the idea of opening 200 franchise outlets under the franchise model in major states and cities have given an immense success as they we have experienced high footfalls.
As a franchise brand, what are the major accomplishments/contributions for which you are most proud of?Though we are marketing through multi-brand stores with a widespread distribution network but to give our customers personalised attention, we thought it’s apt to take franchise route as well. We have our exclusive outlets by the name of Kent Shoppe where customers can choose from a range of product with the expert’s guidance. Opening exclusive outlets is the only way to bridge this gap with the target audience and make the life of the people safe and healthy. Our idea is to put an array of products in the store and let the consumers have the experience and know-how about the new innovative range to make their life healthier.
Your leadership mantra.
My leadership mantra is to have positive attitude. Motivation is enough to drive your team towards better results. Exhibiting enthusiasm is important to keep your employees upbeat for goals.
