In an exclusive interaction with Joyshree Saha, Rajiv Jain, Director shares his experience with major franchisors such as Goldsgym, Sony, Samsung, Baby Oye and Titan Eye Plus.
The Guwahati-based NRS group is headed by three brothers –Nirmal Jain, Rajiv Jain Sanjiv Jain. The group has a combined experience in diverse fields that include electronics, mobiles, health & fitness, eye care, mother and child wellness. The combined group turnover is Rs.650 crores for FY 2015-16.
What motivated you to take the franchisee of the so many brand?
We started our journey with the brand “SONY”, which have been the most fortunate thing to have happened to us. Two decades back, we realized that with the winds of liberalization blowing across India, potentially the most successful format of business would be to go along with the established brands and that proved right for us. At this point, our journey with various brands has been extremely satisfying and rewarding. We are eagerly looking forward to get associated with more iconic brands in future.
How significant is franchising model in today’s world?
Brands are built with sweat and blood and through many trials and errors. There is no time to lose in today’s fast evolving world. It would be a herculean task to build a brand of one’s own without being sure about its success. So, the best way is to choose to associate with brands that are already successful across countries and region. Hence, franchising is a sure shot way to success.
What according to you are important tips for becoming a successful franchisee?
The ability to choose the right brand, right location and right catchment area is a basic ingredient to be a successful franchisee. Travelling across region and looking out for potential brands and the ability to think ahead of times is another trait to be a successful franchisee.
What sort of training and support are offered by your franchisor?
Regular up-grade of knowledge on sales and technical staff, designing product portfolios as per consumer needs, constantly ensuring healthy return of investment (ROI) and offering newer business opportunities to grow has been the cornerstone of our association with our brands.
What is the best thing about your franchise brand and the franchisor?
Our franchisors always had a keen desire to look at our problems and given us quick and meaningful solutions. In a way, it is a parent and child relationship. This is the best possible thing that a franchisee expects from his principal.
