"We maintain consistency of taste and quality"

When did you start Koyla Kebab?

I opened Koyla Kebab five years ago. It was started by three childhood friends, who studied in the same school having a common interest in food. The idea came from a need of good tasting but healthy Indian food. From a very young age we used to have kebabs in Old Delhi. We wanted to recreate the same delicacies and make them available closer to the customer in South Delhi. We wanted to provide kebabs with the traditionally authentic taste and ingredients prepared in a very hygienic manner visible to the customers. The idea was not only to provide the food at our outlets/cafes, but to also make it available at the customer’s doorstep through home delivery and catering.

What was the total investment done? Who has invested in Koyla Kebab?

We started with a minimal investment which further created capital with the popularity of our brand and opening of new outlets. The investors are Girish Godhwani , Anuj Tyagi and Amit Tyagi.

How many outlets are you operating presently and what is the expansion plan?

We are currently present in Saket PVR Market, GK2 M block Market, Delhi Gymkhana Club, Delhi Golf Club (in the winters) and Defence Colony Main Market (our latest outlet). We are open to exploring opportunities of opening new outlets through franchisees or self.

We see that there are lots of players in this segment. How do you view the competition?

Competition is very fierce in this segment. However, we do believe that we have a unique taste in our product as we have received an overwhelming response at the various food festivals held across Delhi for the last two years.

What is an average footfall at your outlets?

We get average footfalls of around 40-45 people a day at the Defence Colony Outlet, even though it is just about a month old. But most of our outlets are take away outlets, hence they primarily attract delivery/takeaway orders.

What is your unique marketing practice to keep ahead of your competition?

We maintain consistency of taste and quality across all our outlets. This is achieved through our base Kitchen where all our food is pre-marinated and supplied from.

How about entering franchising route?

We are open to franchising opportunities.

Tell us about your expansion (no of outlets, cities)

We have just opened up Defence Colony. As of now, we are in talks of opening up a 6thoutlet in DLF phase IV.
