How Zomato is giving a tough fight to online food delivery players?

In the last few years, online food delivery space has seen a surge in terms of getting the food at the ease of a click. With segments like Food-tech start ups heating up the food business space, Zomato, the restaurant search engine has earlier announced its entry into the food delivery segment, challenging the business of its competitors already there in the space.

Zomato which has joined hands with Wendy’s, the third largest hamburger chain for its online delivery, is in talks with more such QSR players including Domino’s to get them on board.

Zomato’s order app which is currently active in 14 cities with huge expansion plans has brought Domino’s on board to deliver food in selected locations.

“Once we’d learnt that Wendy’s was launching in India we reached out to Sierra Nevada Restaurants Pvt. Ltd. and formed a mutual partnership with them,” shared Tanmay Saksena, Global Business Head, Online Ordering, Zomato.

“Wendy’s is one of the largest hamburger chains in the world. We are excited to be their online partners as they venture into the Indian market. So far, the response has been incredible and we’re extremely happy to partner with them,” added Saksena.

Meanwhile, according to report by Traxn, approximately 60 per cent sale of brands like Domino’s Pizza Hut and KFC comes through online channels; hence these brands could turn out to be a bigger business ground for Zomato.

“We are also in talks with other leading QSR players in India and consumers will soon be able to order online through Zomato for a larger variety of QSRs,” added Saksena.

Likewise, in a scene where the food-tech players like TinyOwl and Foodpanda are already trying to strengthen their foothold, the global QSRs have a strong backend and supply chain to deliver the foods, it will be a challenging scenario for Zomato to cater to the need of the customers and brands where both have become over cautious when selecting the right partner to order from.
