Observing the immense potential of the pre-school segment and strengths and weaknesses of the present operational brands, Aloha India, a popular name in the field of abacus education, has forayed into the pre-school segment with Aloha Kinderstart. Kumaran. K, CMD, Aloha India describes his dream in his own words.

What research have you undertaken before foraying into the pre-school segment?

I have travelled and visited various pre-schools in India and abroad and have done a detailed study on their strengths and weaknesses. In the last six years, I have met thousands and thousands of parents on a day-to-day basis. Nudged by their expectations for an ideal pre-school, I have decided to enter this segment.

What differences do you observe between the pre-schools of India and abroad?

In India, we take the admission of students at the age of two, but abroad they go for children at the age of 3-4 years. They follow a lot of innovative means of teaching. Here, the teachers are not perfectly equipped and well-trained to handle different types of children. The approach overseas is better than what we follow here.

Being in abacus education, why have you selected the pre-school segment as your other business venture?

Aloha India started its flagship as Abacus and Mental Arithmetic programme. But, my dream is not to get trapped into a single identity. My dream is to develop a chain of schools up to K12.

Tell us about course curriculum of Kinderstart. What is its USP?

Our curriculum for the preschool is powered by XSEED. This offers integrated teacher training and holistic curriculum programmes for schools. XSEED is an experiential curriculum that focuses on promoting true learning, rather than mugging up from text books. XSEED also aims to develop the creative expression of the child through various literary and artistic activities.

We will also equip our franchisees with additional after school/ weekend skill development programmes such as Abacus and Mental Arithmetic programme, Aloha handwriting programme, Aloha reading programme and an international kids art programme. Pre-school will be in operation till 3'o clock, and after that they can run the training programmes, which will cater to the age group of 4-14 years.

What are your requirements from franchisees?

We are looking for franchisees with the capital of Rs 6-8 lakh for a carpet area of 1,500-1,800 sq.ft. The franchisee should also have the passion for children education. For an aspiring master franchisee, the person should have the ability to invest up to Rs 25-30 lakh.

What training and support will you provide to your franchisees?

We will provide training on operations, sales and marketing, counseling, house keeping and technical training to teachers on the curriculum and its implementation. On-going teachers training will be provided after every six months.

How many units do you have at present? What are your expansion plans?

Presently, we are operational in Chennai with four company-owned units. We are also planning to open six more company-owned units. We plan to open 125 pre-schools in the next one year targeting all the major cities and major metros. We are also looking for master franchisees for each state who will work in association with the regional managers appointed by the company to carry out the business.
