SMEs in India might be roped in for aeronautics engineering. With the rising demand in high levels of design and production in the aerospace industry, including the Indian market, major players are planning to outsource work to private firms including SMEs in India.
Airbus, the world’s largest plane maker, for instance, is planning to offshore 20% of its overall engineering work, and a major chunk of it will go to India followed by Russia and China.
According to Dr Roger Moser, faculty at IIM-Bangalore, the institute will do more high-end work dealing with aerodynamics. He also said that the work off shored by companies such as Airbus may be worth a few million euros right now, but in coming years it would turn into a few hundred million euros.
Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) Chairman Ashok Nayak said there is a need to get the support from the Indian private firms and SMEs. He also added that some of the SMEs have now come to a stage, where they can do high end aeronautical work.
