NASSCOM Announces Product Council to Boost Software Industry

As a next step to achieving its 2020 vision outlined by the Narayana Murthy Committee, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) today announced the launch of the Product Council 2013-15. Ravi Gururaj, Charman & Co-Founder, Frictionless Ventures, was announced as the Chairman of the NASSCOM Product Council 2013-15 in the presence of Krishnakumar Natarajan, Chairman, NASSCOM, and Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM.

The Product Council envisions establishing the Indian software product ecosystem as a world class source of high value, innovative, next generation products, which are enjoying robust sales traction and are establishing category/IP leadership in both domestic and international markets.

In March 2013, the NASSCOM Expert Committee chaired by NR Narayana Murthy shared key recommendations to address challenges and needs of the industry in order to help realize the industry vision 2020. The report identified the products segment as a key propeller to achieve the vision of an innovative industry that can achieve global recognition.

With a view to boost the product landscape, NASSCOM highlighted key initiatives that will be undertaken to nurture, develop, accelerate and scale the product companies in India. The NASSCOM Product Council will focus on a six pillar engagement to enhance branding, market access, benchmarking, corporate connect, product design and enablement of product solutions in India.

Speaking on this occasion, Krishnakumar Natarajan said “NASSCOM has been a transformational institution that has consistently evolved with the changing environment. Having chaired the Emerge initiative of NASSCOM earlier, I firmly believe that product companies and start-ups are the next growth engines for the industry and will contribute significantly in realizing the vision outlined for the industry. I would like to welcome Ravi Gururaj as the newly elected Chair of the NASSCOM Product Council and as member of the NASSCOM Executive Council. With his focused support and vision for the product industry, the Indian product ecosystem will expand significantly. We have also got a great team of entrepreneurs who along with Ravi are committed to do the right things to deliver a $10B Industry by 2020.”

“It is an honor and privilege to serve as the Chair of NASSCOM’s Product Council. The product sector in India is at an exciting inflection point as our country seeks to replicate the global leadership position we have attained in the services sector in the emerging high growth products and IP segment. I look forward to working with this outstanding and diverse group of accomplished entrepreneurs who make up the product council, each of the NASSCOM regional chapters and all product ecosystem stakeholders pan-India who wish to collaborate on a common agenda to help innovate, nurture, accelerate the growth of the Indian software product ecosystem,” said Ravi Gururaj, Chair, NASSCOM Product Council.
