Arun Maira stated while addressing a meeting on 'An Approach to India's Manufacturing Policy' jointly organized by FICCI and the World Bank in the national capital on Wednesday that Manufacturing policy must grow 3 per cent above GDP.
A high level committee chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has recently approved the draft National Manufacturing Policy that seeks to increase the share of manufacturing in the GDP to 25 percent by 2025 from the current 16 percent.
The policy envisages creation of mega industrial zones with world class infrastructure facilities. The policy will be placed before the cabinet in a month after environment and labour concerns are resolved through inter-ministerial discussions.
Arun Maira also emphasized that a successful implementation of manufacturing policy would require – cooperation between industry and policy makers, coordination with in the Government and coordination with industry associations.
