India's carpet exports increased by 24 percent to USD 653 million in 2010-11 against USD 525 million in fiscal 2009-10 and has set USD 800 Million target for the current financial year.
Indian carpet exporters taking part in the EVTEKS- 17th edition of Istanbul Home Textiles Exhibition, the second biggest fair in the world in its field and the biggest in Turkey, which will get underway from May 18-22, 2011 at CNR Expo Center are expecting order worth 10 million USD. Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC), Chairman, O.P Garg said, "There will be around 14 exhibitors (carpet exporters) participating in the fair. We have participated earlier and got huge number of buyers from Turkey; about USD 10 million business is expected to be generated this time."
"We are exporting around USD 60 million goods (hand-knotted, Kashmiri silk carpets, etc) to Turkey this year. In fact, last year, we had exported around USD 40-45 million of goods to this region," he said in adding.
"Turkey is our regular importer; we get potential orders from there. Business will be good this time as well," Garg told SME Times.
The Development Commissioner for Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles have supported with 75 percent of the total participation fees, which made the exporters access the market and get potential buyers, he mentioned.
