The nation's merchandise exports have shown a robust growth of 56.93 percent at USD 25.94 billion in May compared to same month last year at USD 16.53 billion.
Exports during May were valued at Rs. 116488.01 crore which 53.82 percent higher than the level of Rs. 75730.31 crore during May, 2010, said official day released by ministry of commerce and industry on Friday in New Delhi.
Cumulative value of exports for the period April-May 2011 -12 was USD 49.79 billion (Rs 222307.44 crore) as against USD 34.27 billion (Rs154681.89 crore) registering a growth of 45.28 percent in Dollar terms and 43.72 percent in Rupee terms over the same period last year.
Imports have also registered almost similar growth, during May imports were valued at USD 40.90 billion (Rs.183690.60 crore) representing a growth of 54.08 percent in Dollar terms (51.03 percent in Rupee terms) over the level of imports valued at USD 26.54 billion (Rs. 121627.30 crore) in May, 2010, it said.
Cumulative value of imports for the period April-May, 2011-12 was USD 73.74 billion (Rs. 329376.66 crore) as against USD 55.31 billion (Rs. 249652.61 crore) registering a growth of 33.30 percent in Dollar terms and 31.93 percent in Rupee terms over the same period last year.
