Driven by the growing demand from the US and European markets, handicrafts exports grew about 14 percent to US $204 million in April year-on-year. In April last fiscal, the exports during the period stood at US $179.9 million, according to the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) data. The council expects the exports growth to continue in the current fiscal.
EPCH said that it expects the exports growth to continue in the current fiscal, driven by demand both from the traditional markets like the US and Europe and the emerging markets like Middle East, Latin America and Africa.
In April, among the items that registered the maximum growth in exports were wood wares (26.9 percent), followed by imitation jewellery (21 percent), shawls as art wares (19 percent), miscellaneous handicrafts (15 percent) and art metal wares (13.49 percent), the EPCH data shows.
