As Google expands into new markets, India will be its laboratory for offline experiments.
Since Google is penetrating into areas where Internet access is not so readily available, companies need to advertise offline. The offline model of the Internet giant consists of free vouchers to start-ups in low Internet penetration areas to advertise online. These vouchers are sent to the companies through snail mails.
According to Google, India has 60-80 million Internet users in contrast to at least 500 million mobile users in the country. This makes the country a market with its unique requirement and hence calls for a different approach.
This offline experimental model is based on the model of local search engines like Asklaila.com and Tradeindia.com.
