While the fourth census for the micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) saw an increase in the number of enterprises in most parts of the country, it recorded a decrease in Goa. Of the 7,662 MSMEs registered with the directorate of industries, trade and commerce, the latest census shows that 2,657 have closed down over the last few years.
The reasons that director of industries, trade and commerce Sanjit Rodrigues gave behind the industries going sick is that many of them were set up without a firm road map when there were individual subsidies. He also added that there is sluggishness in that part of the country as there are fewer takers of the government schemes.
