To upgrade small scale food industries and endorse their products in national and international markets, the prospective food cluster is likely to start in a year.
A meeting of manufacturers and food processors around Pune was held to give a push to the project which is under review for the last two years.
The cluster is expected to have participation of more than 500 food processing and manufacturing units located in Pune region. National Agriculture and Food Analysis and Research Institute (NAFARI) and district industries center (DIC), have initiated steps to prepare a diagnostic study report (DSR) for the food cluster which will be submitted to the Union government for approval.
The NAFARI has applied to the ministry of micro, small and medium industries (MSME) for assistance under the scheme of cluster development wherein Rs 15 crore is to be provided by the government while about 10% contribution will come from members of the cluster.
