MSME Minister Virbhadra Singh today resigned from the Union Council of ministers after a special court slapped charges against him in a 23-year-old corruption case.
According to the charges framed against the former chief minister on Monday, he allegedly granted favours to industrialists and his conversation was recorded in a audio CD. In the CD Virbhadra is allegedly heard speaking with IAS officer Mohinder Lal and some industrialists regarding alleged monetary transactions for them to invest in the state.
Charges were framed against 78-year-old Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha Singh under Section 120 B (conspiracy) of IPC and Sections 7,11 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) dealing with bribery and criminal misconduct in the 23-year-old case.
"Deshmukh has been given additional charge of MSME Ministry," an official source said.
Deshmukh is also the Minister for Earth Sciences.
