Thus, this field of handwriting improvement has a lot to offer to franchisees. In a tête-à-tête with Sakshi Arora, Vijay Aggarwal, Chairperson, Saras Calligraphy, discusses in detail his entrepreneurial journey so far and his growth plans.

Briefly let us know about Saras Education.

Saras Calligraphy, which is an initiative of Saras Education Society, was founded in 2008. Professional and experienced volunteers together make the brand a recognised group. Varied services, including spoken English for kids, handwriting improvement, calligraphy and digital classes, are offered by the brand. Eventually, our aim is to boost the morale and confidence of children, and strengthen their will power.

Shed light on the brand’s foundation and success.

Initially, a thorough research was conducted in the field of handwriting improvement. Knowledge about the same and integration of genuine efforts of academicians led to the creation of the brand’s individual handwriting improvement methodology. And the same was necessary since good, neat and readable handwriting depicts the personality of a person, while upping his confidence level.

The company opened its first company-owned center in Yamuna Vihar, Delhi. However, adopting the franchise path in 2010, we have till date launched as many as 110 centers pan-India.

What challenges have you been through and how did you overcome them?

The present handwriting scenario of students led us to open a business in this area, but many hurdles have been faced in the initial stage. The technology was developed at our own end and was new, so it was difficult to make students adopt the same and work accordingly. However, the method is being improved as we are encountering new challenges.

What motivated you to take the franchise route to expand your business?

Our first center was opened after seeing the importance of good handwriting. In order to expand our presence across the country in a faster manner, we decided to follow the franchise model.

What kind of support is offered to franchisees? What is the scope for them in this sector?

Our franchise partners are provided complete guidance related to set up of the store. They are trained about branding materials and are made aware about target customers, with preferred ways to lure them.

We are planning to launch more than 350 centers by December 2015. We have a strong foothold in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra-Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, North East, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Delhi-NCR. Now our target is to tap Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
