“Our business offers profit margins of 18 to 30%”-Ankita Shroff

Please share your entrepreneurial journey.

When I started handling my father’s real estate marketing department at Pune. The most interesting assignment given to me was completion of four show flats in our projects by importing furniture from China. Working on a global platform is yet another experience, where one gets to learn about their working styles and culture. The furniture sector in China was as inspiring as it majorly had young girls employed in sales, documenting and even cracking the final deal. Handwork, patience, consistency and efficiency were take aways from this experience.

But I always had a desire to start something of my own. By then, I started working on a small venture to get Taiwanese Bubble tea to India, with a Taiwanese Imperial classmate. When my family and friends mooted the idea out, the same classmate put forth a business proposal for her to take forward in India. It was an interesting avenue and opportunity that knocked my career pathway. It was indeed mix of passion, the desire to explore different opportunities that actually motivated me to start this organization. After intense discussions, meetings, studying of projections, future market scope, product portfolios, pricing, investments and Taiwan visits, SAV Chemicals was born on April 9, 2014.

The first year was indeed a different learning experience altogether as I was not familiar with most of the business aspects especially in the manufacturing and distributorship networking. It was time to translate my learning from books into action. Getting the right space, team, imports, law and taxation, FDI etc were really big challenges for me. Getting the right distributors in a region was also a challenge.

Setting up a distributor network, sales and marketing was initially challenging, but with meeting right people and I started getting a sense of the direction. It was indeed fun and an interesting challenge. Being a first timer and a woman in the manufacturing sector, consistency, patience and support worked to my advantage and although a little delayed, my dream did take flight.

Please elaborate about your distribution model? What do you offer to a potential female who wishes to follow your footsteps and become your franchisee/distributor?

Our distribution model is different for retail and industrial segment. The most important aspect of growth is collaboration, which can be different forms like partnership, franchises, distributorships, etc. For Retail segment, we have stockists or Sole distributors or super stocksits in a region, who then supply to 100’s of retailers such as stationary stores, hardware stores, grocery storeswhich then supply it to the end users.

In the industrial segment, we have a disributor who directly supplies to the different industries. These distributors have an independent team who find the potential customers and our company would also route customers through the distributors to generate a win win situation.

We want to offer suitable interested distributorship across India who has certain knowledge about the same or even motivated entrepreneurs interested to look at new business opportunities. Our business offers profit margins ranging from 18 to 30% depending on the products. We also offer initially guiding, mentoring, motivating and supporting you with any technical assisstance to start the business venture.

As being a leading female entrepreneur, what are the challenges that you face while working?

My age and gender was never really a problem, instead people always helped and guided me in detail to all my queries. I believe every business grows with collaboration and everyone is there to help you may be by sharing their knowledge and network. I think I was rather respected and looked up as being a female entreprenuer in the sector. Initially it was a bit unusual for most of the people to see me, but if you are confident and know your matter well you shall be appreciated and supported. Being a first timer, and plus a girl in the manufacturing and dsitribution network, I have learnt that with consistency, persistence and determination one can takle all the challenges and be a stronger human to face more to come .
