Brands woo the little ones

With increasing disposable incomes of the families, parents have become more willing to fulfill the demands of their kids according to the latest trends. That is why, the demand for branded kids wear has increased enormously.

The kids’ wear industry in India is worth Rs 12,000 crore, and is growing at the rate of 10 per cent annually. The industry, as such, offers a fertile ground to the major players to spread across India. Most of the renowned kids wear brands have opted for a franchise route to expand. If you are looking for a business in this industry, then it is the right time to penetrate into the market. In a brand conscious world, it becomes more important to make your presence visible in the market; lest one vanishes out of the scene over a period of time. So, it is worth tying up with a few well established brands because they provide a robust and rewarding platform to establish the business.

Prominent players in the sector

Some of the major players in kids’ wear who franchise are Toon Kidz - a national retail chain, that is widely popular for its global animation designing on the clothes; Lilliput Kids wear Ltd is the oldest player in the market and is running successfully throughout the world. Similarly, there are other well known brands like Gini & Jony, Lil’Stop, Zapp Baby Zap, among others which have been in the franchise business for quite a long and doing well.

The prolific growth of these domestic players has also allured many international players to cash in-on this booming market.  As per media reports, Zudaas France is planning to open 200 more exclusive brand outlets in India by 2010-2011. Catmoss Retail Ltd is also interested in investing Rs 400 crore in the next five years to open 500 stores in India.

How to get started?

To begin your journey in the kids’ wear industry, the entrepreneur needs to look for a brand that is planning to expand through the franchise route. Franchise provides a platform to start a secure business. The kids wear industry is full of opportunities and has a dynamic future ahead. Like, Toon Kidz offers great franchise opportunities to its franchisees by offering minimum guarantee of 18 per cent on the set up investments along with monthly expenses. But location is the key factor that a franchisor must identify while offering franchise to an investor.

Kids wear is a flourishing market with a great scope. Moreover, nothing can be more fulfilling than having a kids’ wear outlet.  If this is the kind of business you always wanted to be in, then it is the right time for an entrepreneur to move a step forward and start looking for a franchisor, as this sector provides safe and secure business ground.
