The Indian beauty industry has witnessed tremendous transformation in past few years and has created new avenues for investors who are looking for potential opportunities in beauty salon and spa equipments supply. The industry is expected to grow at a rate of 30 to 35 per cent year on year. With the increasing number of beauty centers, the demand for the beauty equipments has increased and opened new avenues for franchisees, dealers and distributors. Anurag Kedia, Director, the Four Fountains Spa says, “The Indian market is witnessing an unprecedented growth in demand of spa services and beauty solutions. To fulfill the clientele desire, the demand for setting up high quality infrastructure and equipments has increased.”

The brands like Esthetica, Aithein, Tangy Roses, Beauty Palace, Doctor H2O, Ananya Creations Limited, Novatech Enviro Systems Private Limited, Prime Bodies, Beauty Solutions, JCKRC Spa Destination Pvt. Ltd, Laxmi Enterprises, Zenat, KS Beauty Centre, JSK Beauty & Salon Solutions, Evavo Wellness and Wellness India, etc are providing the equipments and beauty solutions techniques to salons and spas.  Most of these brands are either following dealer and distributor business model or are franchising to cover maximum locations across India. The Spa Consultants Founder, Dr. Manish Patwardhan adds, “Apart from this there are a lot of small players in the market who are operating in their respective local markets and providing spas and salon equipments to beauty care centres.”

Skin care and Ayurvedic therapies are growing at a fast pace which has increased the demands for massage products. “The excellence and versatility in massage equipments are key factors to survive in this industry. We change our products according to the demand from market and deliver fine quality with superior bodywork designs,’ says Nikhil Gupta, Founder, Aithein. The brand offers a wide range of massage products which can be easily found in Ayurveda therapies centers, luxury spas, and resort rooms etc. around the world. Additionally, it is offering spa management consultancy services and training programs through its state- of –the- art academy.

Boulevard to new avenues

With changing lifestyle, people are spending more on beauty solutions leading to the increase in demand of salon and spa equipments too. Patwardhan says, “The opportunity of spa equipment market is huge in India for the reason that there are more than 3000 spas which will open in the next four to five years.” There are a lot of high-end residential complexes being constructed in India and all these properties essentially have spas, health and fitness clubs within their complex. Additionally, high-end residential bunglows/ farm houses built with contemporary layout also create avenues for spa equipment business.

Potential Avenues

If you are interested in starting a business in beauty equipment segment, franchising and dealer/distributorship could be a good option. Patwardhan says, “More than 3000 + spas are opening in India in near future. If we estimate an approximate purchase of Rs 25 lakh per spa then we are looking at Rs 750 to 1000 crore market.” The business opportunities are huge in offering the equipment and technology segment. A beauty enthusiast can start his business as a supplier for salon furniture, spa furniture, hair equipments, beauty equipments, .slimming equipments etc.

Opportunities in store

Opportunities are enormous, but there are issues like unorganised local player and price sensitive customers etc. If one is ready to overpower these challenges, he/she can gain huge profit. Tushar Kapoor, Director, Beauty Solution, a brand by Jacko Group says, “As we are in this business since 1962, we saw tremendous changes. But now India is turning into a hub for providing sophisticated beauty solutions by giving opportunities to entrepreneurs.” He adds, “We are planning to extend our presence across India through potential dealers and distributors.” Currently, they have outlets in Mumbai, Delhi and Ludhiana. Kapoor says, “We are looking for potential partners especially in metro and tier-II cities.” The brand offers a one stop solution for all salon and spa equipments, accessories, furniture, and cosmetics etc. Along with in-house manufacturing it also has association with international companies for delivering quality products. There are many other market players who have plans for multiple locations concentrated in tier- I and II cities. However, Gupta adds, “Presently, we don’t have any dealer or distributor but I would prefer expanding our presence through potential dealers and distributors in different cities.” Additionally, there are many other brands that are looking for potential franchisees to expand their presence across India.
